Description

Falafel is a deep fried ball made with a combination of ground chickpeas and fava beans, herbs, and spices. It has a coarse texture and been described as being similar to a savory donut. The herbs and spices used in falafel are chopped onion, garlic, coriander, cumin, parsley, pepper powder, and salt.  Falafel these days globally known as a fast food, and as a street food sometimes.

Origin

The origin of this dish is quite controversial, but it is obviously a traditional dish from Middle-Eastern countries. Some stated that falafel originated in Egypt as Coptic Christians looked for a hearty replacement for meat during long seasons of fasting or Lent. Therefore, Falafel also become a popular vegetarian food in Egypt and throughout the Middle East.

Made with chickpeas, Falafel is high in protein, complex carbohydrates, and fiber. Key nutrients are calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese, vitamin C, thiamine, pantothenic acid, vitamin B, and folate. Falafel is effective in lowering blood cholesterol, help with digestion, and give you stronger bones.

How To Serve Falafel

The most common way to eat Falafel is stuffing the falafel balls with tomatoes, cucumbers, and pickled onions into a pita bread (Falafel Sandwich). But, throughout many journey and improvements, the Falafel nowadays are served in various ways. There are Burger Falafel, Doughnut Falafel, Waffle Falafel, and many more.

In our bakery, we serve 2 types of Falafel Sandwich: the regular one and the vegan one. Both are served with veggies and hummus, but the vegan one are using green tortilla as a replacement for pita bread.
